Really wanted to do a mech piece again, decided to finally do a back view of stratus. Overall I'm really happy with it, going to print out a copy hopefully and put it up in my room.
Played with lighting quite a bit, and this time I didn't line the mech before drawing it. I think overall there was more freedom because working with line art forces you to have to do it right the first time, but just freehand painting feels a lot less restrictive and you can play around with the poses/colours a lot more, but the entire production process becomes less mechanical and easy (but I think it's worth it). Also I didn't overuse textures this time, everything was hand painted and I used brushes to achieve the textures I wanted, so overall I'm happy I didn't have to 'cheat' to make it look good.
Went through 3 drafts before I was happy with the scenery, I wanted it to be really complicated but in the end I opted for a simpler landscape so that the mech can stand out.
Hope you enjoy.
PS: anyone know a good subreddit to submit mech stuff to?
