Dune Cat by mqken
Dune Cat
'The lone hunter of the Salty Ridge'

Dune Cat is a highly mobile, S rank desert ground combat specialist. It patrols over the Salt Ridge desert, a huge wasteland on the outskirts of a territory that is highly disputed between two overseas superpowers.

It's the flagship of the Salt Ridge militia, a local government that is still trying to establish itself after years of turmoil and civil war. There's plenty of fuel and ammo leftover from previous conflicts, but until Dune Cat, the militia never had a way to fight the superpowers on a scale that mattered. As the superpowers attempt to eke out their portions of this land, Dune Cat is sent to destroy their supply chains and to destroy any lightly defended military assets they might have in the region.

Dune Cat has treads under its feet modules for normal movement, but the highlight of its functionality is its ability to execute extended bursts of flight over the desert, despite having such a heavy-weight frame and armament. Its only weakness is the lifespan of its fuel packs, which are consumed quickly compared to other mechs of its weight class. It's equipped with two light artillery cannons and two missile packs. It fires them in rapid succession and then disappears for refuel, only to reappear a few hours later, unleashing more destruction.

Dune Cat does not fight fair, it does not fight for long, and it always comes and goes like a cloud of dust...

Against the Odds by mqken
Against the Odds
Really wanted to do a mech piece again, decided to finally do a back view of stratus. Overall I'm really happy with it, going to print out a copy hopefully and put it up in my room.

Played with lighting quite a bit, and this time I didn't line the mech before drawing it. I think overall there was more freedom because working with line art forces you to have to do it right the first time, but just freehand painting feels a lot less restrictive and you can play around with the poses/colours a lot more, but the entire production process becomes less mechanical and easy (but I think it's worth it). Also I didn't overuse textures this time, everything was hand painted and I used brushes to achieve the textures I wanted, so overall I'm happy I didn't have to 'cheat' to make it look good.

Went through 3 drafts before I was happy with the scenery, I wanted it to be really complicated but in the end I opted for a simpler landscape so that the mech can stand out.

Hope you enjoy.

PS: anyone know a good subreddit to submit mech stuff to?

This shit was from 2 years ago.

You know when you're in trouble when shit from 2 years ago seemed mildly impressive to you.

Fuck, I gotta get off my ass and do something.
