Stratus - V3 by mqken Stratus - V3 by mqken
EDITED: Thanks to :iconkomikino: 's comments I have put some shading and etc to differentiate the different body parts.

Some people who know about my old design of this mech would know I've tried this twice already. Both turned out too boxy for my taste atm, so I tried again.

This itself is not actually suppose to be a picture, it is part of a larger picture that I'm working on. Thats the reason why its missing an arm and a leg, and the rest of its body. But you kinda get a good idea of what it looks like.

1. Designed parts: CHAINS-S-S-Saww sword, it basically is made of a type of metal that receives and transfers heat very quickly, which means while it cuts, it melts. Also, the sword bends backwards. The sword also has a lock-in mechanism which takes some pressure off the arm during impact, as well as a handle for even more durability.

2. Also, the big ass thing infront of its chest, is a shield + machine gun+ flight transformation piece. Image you bending your arms in an Egyptian dance pose, the front of the chest bends twice to become compact and to be used as a shield, but if in flight mode, it bends forward into a straight pointy thing that helps flight, and also fires machine gun. This was present in the original Stratus design as a flight assist piece, but this bending design came to me afterwards. It is more realistic, more developed, and BETTER.

3. Shield on shoulder pads. If Stratus bends its wrist up 180%, touching the shield on the shoulder pad, the two parts become a tiny shield.

4. Made the head less gundamy and less boxy. Still looks kinda like a gundam rip off, >.>. Been trying to figure out a way to draw 2 eyed mechs that doesn't look like gundams.... still working on it :)

Anyways, enjoy, comment, criticize.

A good way to ditch the 'Gundam' effect is to ditch the separate eyes. In the original piece, it looked more like the 'eyes' were a vizor set up with multiple sensors in a band arround the head, I would keep that same feel to it.

No prob! Just helping out!
Sometimes, I am afraid to give constructive criticism or comments to people because I am afraid they might take it the wrong way. You can only get so far in art by only receiving "Looks great" comments on what you post. :)

Nice design especially for point 2, about gundam head well, gundam type head has a really complex design its almost impossible to create non gundamish head just by removing the V-fin and the mouth vent, but if you're willing to drastically change your stratus head try to remove or change the chin and the cheek armor

True man, I hate that chin thing, because everytime I don't put it on, it doesn't seem right for some reason. My friend suggested that I try one eyed mechs because they're much easier to manipulate and create different types, but 2 eyed mechs become so much more limited for some reason. Anyways Ima keep trying and take in some of your advice, thanks.

Cool mech design. It's kind of hard telling the different parts of the mech from eachother. They all have the same color values so they seem to blend into eachother. Especially they shoulder areas. Cast shadows would help show some more depth and dimension to this sell designed beast. :)!
